Dear momtobe,

Congratulations!! Children are blessings from the Lord

Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it Proverbs 22:6. Prayer is the key. As a mother you can pray for your childís future even while he/she is still in the womb.

I will share a narrative that I read about Mosesí mother that touched me. As a mother she weaved a basket and placed him in the water (Exodus 2). Likewise we need to weave a basket for our children. Let the strands with which we weave be fear of God, love of God, knowledge of god, love of others, respect, caring and hospitality. As she sealed the basket with tar and pitch to keep the water from entering (Exodus 2:3) we can seal our basket with tearful prayers and living a life that can be example to our child. After we have done our part we can let go of our child into the murky waters of the world. If we have trained the child in His ways, even if he is old he will not depart from it. Thatís Godís promise to us. Seek His kingdom and rest will be added unto us. Thatís what I am clinging to.

As a mother of young child, I pray for his future, I pray that he will have God fearing friends, to have discernment to know what is right & wrong, that he will seek to honor God with career path he will choose. I also pray for his future wife that He will keep them both pure & safe until their chosen day. It may sound silly to others but that is the example I learned from my mother. I believe today I reap the benefit of her prayers.

Prayer life and my life priorities is how I can show my child to live a Godly life and hopefully with His grace he will choose to follow the Lord.

May God shower His abundant grace on you and give you His guidance to raise your child in His ways.

Ann

To be precise...children are a GIFT from God; not a blessing. Eph 1 teaches that all christians are blessed with all blessings. If children were a blessing, are childless christians not blessed?

The distinction is that a blessing is not accountable, wheras a gift is. Meaning, at the judgement seat of Christ, we will have to give an account with respect to the gifts we received. That means we are answerable to God for the manner in which we raise our children (his gifts to us).
