Dear 'caseforchrist,'

Your question is interesting and may benefit many on this forum. While others are pondering, let me place certain things for consideration:

Since we are considering sports in assiciation with their risks, I wish to consdier all risks to classify as high risk or low risk categories. From historical point of view, what is the risk of getting injured in these high risk sports that are mentioned? Please give also the risk of injury in playing soccor, volley ball, tennis, foot ball (USA), etc. Now let us compare. This will be meaningful that just a discussion.

Since, 'caseforchrist' asked this question, I ask him or someone else to help, in this matter.

In many big cities walking is riskier than playing any sports.

Shalom malekim!!!

I am trying to bring out a Scriptural PRINCIPLE here, instead of saying whether or not adventure sports is right.

Paul wrote about Ephaphroditus - "Because for the work of Christ he was nigh unto death, NOT REGARDING HIS LIFE, to supply your lack of service toward me" (Phil 2:30).

Here, Ephaphroditus RISKED his life for the cause of Christ. Similarly, Priscilla and Aquila "LAID DOWN THEIR OWN NECKS" for Paul (Rom 16:3-4). Paul did the same thing (Acts 20:24).

Further, Paul said, "For to me TO LIVE is Christ, and to die is gain" (Phil 1:21).

What I am trying to say here is, Paul jeopardized his life for the sake of the Lord. But his LIFE was for Christ. Why then should we jeopardize our lives for some thing else, especially when we cannot jeopardize it for the Lord?

Since the Bible tells us, "For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your BODY, and in your spirit, WHICH ARE GOD'S" (1 Cor 6:20), and "YE ARE NOT YOUR OWN" (verse 19), why should we put the body to risk to suffer injury, thus disabling us to LIVE FOR CHRIST? Think about it!!!

Thanks for the response brothers.
For the question asked by brother George to catogorize the risk, I would say that any sport that can cause a sure death if any minor or major mishap occurs is an adventure sport.

If you take football or cricket, surely there is a risk in getting oneself killed. But the chances for such mishap is only say one in some one million. In contrast to this, sky diving can be fatal even if the smallest of mishap occurs.

Also as i had pointed earlier, the sports i mention to are only "ADVENTURE" sports. This can be another catogorization point. Say if you take cricket, there is nothing adventurous in it. But if you take bungee jumping, it is surely adventurous.

I hope this clears your doubt.

caseforchrist - driving your automobile over the speed limit can be an adventures sport. Many gat killed in that sport. bungee jumping - if you go to a certified place, they will fit you with correct equipment, then there is no danger.
One of the kennedys gat killed playing flag football..so dont say there is no adventure in it.. But as a born again believer our adventure will be going out and telling about eternity...

Case for Christ,In my opinion there is adventure in whatever act we do whether it be sports or any other activity. There will always be a thought in the back of our mind whether our act is going to be success or failure. As George P Koshy said in the forum even walking through the roads is a big adventure. You are never for sure whether you will reach your final destination. So whatever we do commit our ways unto God and he will bring it to pass. Our life is hidden in Him.He will take our life from us in his own time.Suicide is an act which a person does intentionally.Only God has the right to take away the life which he has given us.If I am not mistaken we are not going for Bungee Jumping, Surfing, Sky diving etc with an intention to kill ourself.Right!!!.So nothing to worry,go ahead and lead a adventurous life seeking God's will.

I cori 10:31
Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.

If the adventure is for the glory of God, there is nothing wrong in that.
