# 01445 :  A Question from God
Dear brethren in Christ,

I would like to post a new topic on a question from God.
Genesis 32

27And he said unto him, What is thy name? And he said, Jacob.

Did Almighty God not know Jacob's name , why was the question asked ?

Is this question anytime related to our spiritual life.

Yours in Christ
Samuel

Dear Samuel VJ

I think you are the one under the pen name ďnelnob1Ē, am I right?

Gen 32:26 And He said, "Let Me go, for the day breaks." But he said, "I will not let You go unless You bless me!"
Gen 32:27 So He said to him, "What is your name?" He said, "Jacob."
Gen 32:28 And He said, "Your name shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel; for you have struggled with God and with men, and have prevailed."
Gen 32:29 Then Jacob asked, saying, "Tell me Your name, I pray." And He said, "Why is it that you ask about My name?" And He blessed him there.
Gen 32:30 So Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: "For I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved."

God knows his name but want to hear from him, an acknowledgement from him in order to change his name, Jacob = a supplanter, to Israel = Prince of God.

Dear brethren , Samkutty in Christ,

First of all I apologise all the forum members for not informing the change of Pen name. {My pen name has been changed from "nelnob1" to "samuel.v.j"

Thank you brother Samkutty for the answers, why did God want to hear the name Jacob from his mouth, was it only for acknowledgement, or something else God wanted to teach him.

Was there a change in his life ?

Yours in Christ

Dear Samuel VJ

Jacob struggled with a man, an Angel of Jehovah (Probably God himself incarnated as an Angel, that is why Jacob in the following words saying that I have seen God face to face).

Gen 32:24 Then Jacob was left alone; and a Man wrestled with him until the breaking of day.

Hos 12:3 He took his brother by the heel in the womb, And in his strength he struggled with God.
Hos 12:4 Yes, he struggled with the Angel and prevailed; He wept, and sought favor from Him. He found Him in Bethel, And there He spoke to usó

Because of the wrestling/struggling Jacob received 2 things.

(1) The socket of Jacobís hip was out of Joint.

Gen 32:25 Now when He saw that He did not prevail against him, He touched the socket of his hip; and the socket of Jacob's hip was out of joint as He wrestled with him.

(2) Angel of Jehovah Blessed Jacob, that means he received blessings of God.

Gen 32:29 Then Jacob asked, saying, "Tell me Your name, I pray." And He said, "Why is it that you ask about My name?" And He blessed him there.

His acknowledgement was he is Jacob, which means a heel catcher or a supplanter.

Yours in Christ.

Dear br. Samkutty in Christ,

Thank you dear brother, some imaginary thoughts have come to my mind. I will just write it down if there are any corrections please dont hesitate to correct me.

18And he came unto his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here am I; who art thou, my son?
19And Jacob said unto his father, I am ESAU thy first born; I have done according as thou badest me: arise, I pray thee, sit and eat of my venison, that thy soul may bless me.
20And Isaac said unto his son, How is it that thou hast found it so quickly, my son? And he said, Because the LORD thy God brought it to me.
21And Isaac said unto Jacob, Come near, I pray thee, that I may feel thee, my son, whether thou be my very son ESAU or not.
22And Jacob went near unto Isaac his father; and he felt him, and said, The voice is Jacob's voice, but the hands are the hands of ESAU.
23And he discerned him not, because his hands were hairy, as his brother Esau's hands: so he blessed him.

36And he said, Is not he rightly named Jacob? for he hath supplanted me these two times: he took away my birthright; and, behold, now he hath taken away my blessing. And he said, Hast thou not reserved a blessing for me?

When his worldy father asked his name , he said his brothers name to grab the wordly blessings.

Now when heavenly Father asks him, he doesnt know to tell the lies as he did with wordly father ,but he tells the truth, his own name, a true conviction and gets eternal blessing and get a name in the patriach.

When he met God, he is totally changed.
1-Name : Jacob to Israel
2-Place: Jabbok to Piniel
3-Character: A person who cheated his elder brother, now regrets his doings and sends him token of love and asking pardon.
4-Walk: A person who was running always way from Laban & Esau , now can only walk limbing because the hollow of Jacob's thigh was out of joint.

When we submit truly ourselves before God, our name, character, our walk and our place, God will change.

Dear Samuel

What you posted is correct.
Because of Jacobís carnal behaviours he was successful but was facing disastrous situation, his life was threatened, he was on running

When Jacob admitted himself he is Jacob a supplanter and humble himself, God blessed him. From that point onwards Godís material and spiritual blessings received by him was in peaceful manner. His name become Israel, which was the Godís chosen nationís name.

A lesson we need to learn from this incident is with our carnal behaviours or actions we cannot receive Godís blessings. We need to humble ourselves and admit our failures in the presence of Lord so that he will bless us and guide as in the Godly ways.

Godís promise was there with Jacob:

Gen 28:15 Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done what I have spoken to you."

If God is with us who can be against us.

Yours in Christ.

Dear brother Samkutty in Christ,

Thank you brother, the motive of the thread was also same, when a person humbly submits him/her a complete surrender before God i.e when he submits that he is a sinner and accepting Jesus Christ as his or her savior , sure God will change his or her Name from a child of the World to a child of God, he will have a place in heaven instead of hell, his character will be changed from works of the flesh to fruits of spirit as in the book of Galatians,His or her walks will be diverted from wrong places to the Holy place (to the presence of God) where there are believers gathering, the body of Christ.
